” Mystery Continues ” by tgchan ( Sony A6500 + Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 )

” So, the mystery continues… I am still trying to figure out what’s so special about those blocks of flats to me. I think it comes from my childhood. See, I didn’t use to go out a lot when I was a kid. I was basically living my whole life in my beloved flat most of the time, and I really liked it. I was enjoying outside activities at my grandparents at the weekends, but that was it. Five days a week, I was sitting at my home playing games, watching telly and playing with my toys, all the time (except for when I had to go out to school, obviously; which I wasn’t really fond of…). I totally loved my childhood, by the way. Hah~!! I was just reading it over out loud and I realised that my current adult life resembles the one from my childhood almost identically… wow… It looks I haven’t moved in life at all… Anyway, I was spending my life in tight enclosed spaces most of the time, so this might be one of the reasons. The second one I have figured out is probably connected with my lone style of life. See, I don’t have many friends you know. To tell the truth, I don’t have any at the moment. I had two best friends a long time ago, but they are… out there in the world somewhere now. So I think, I really enjoy being around people, even though I don’t like 98% of them. I am leading a solitary boring life, so it makes me feel nice being in places where life just lives the normal way, you know? I am pretty sure it all adds up to itself. Childhood nostalgia, loneliness, love of being outside, taking something back as a souvenir and probably so much more… All that is the reason why I enjoy doing what I do so much, and it explains a lot why I am being so attracted to those places… I feel like I am at home, even though the real one is far far away sometimes. I feel I belong between those tall buildings (inside and on top of them too!). It’s a truly magical experience for me every time I go out there. I just wish I had someone to share those moments with… Just that one person I could take with me and get lost in time… “

” Just Another Oh Rama ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-5 II s + SMC Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 AL Limited )

” Just another casual day… just another rama… Mr Oh Rama Panorama. Yup, it truly is as cool as it looks. A giant boob you can climb on and look at the city from above. Eh… I wish I could be there now. I would lie down on the grass and look at those lazy white clouds flying by… It is magnificent. You know it, I know it. Nobody can deny it. I just wish I could see some giant elfish trees growing out from the centre of the city. It would be awesome. Damn… now this is the place and time where photo manipulation could come handy. You can’t have it all I guess + it wouldn’t be a photograph any more. I returned to this place later that day, hopefully to capture a beautiful sundown… Unfortunately, some low ass clouds had their own plans, and they have ruined the show by blocking everything that was supposed to be interesting. I guess it was not my day nor the time for me to capture it properly. I really enjoyed that journey. Even though I started it with getting a ticket for doing some crazy and totally unnecessary shit on the road, being still on the premises of my own city… I really thought this incident will jinx everything that day… But I have fought my mind furiously to stay positive and still drain happiness from the trip. Despite a bad start and 400km drive… I really loved it. I just wish I could bring some more photographs from that city… But hey… I guess this is all what I was meant to bring home with me, and I am grateful I have not returned empty-handed. “

” Peak Peek ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-5 II s + Samyang 8mm F3.5 Fisheye CS II )

” The world… what a playground… You can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, yet most of us stay where we are and do what we do, unable to change the course of destination. It is not so big as we think it is, the world I mean, yet it is big enough. I don’t know… I think I like it. There is so much to discover about it, so many nice places to visit, experience, understand… I love looking at it from above. It feels like a mini-map in a game where I look where I should go next. I look at the horizon and I want to be there… I want to climb another tall building, look far ahead and be there… and be there, and be there, never stop exploring, never stop breathing in its beauty and complexity. Every corner hides a secret, a never-ending journey of surprises, full of treasures to be discovered. Sun, rain, clouds, snow, fog, day, night, morning, afternoon, evening, summer, winter, spring, autumn… So many varieties… Each one of them making the very same place look different, every time you see it… Not to mention the different combination of them together. Isn’t it wonderful? The world can be what we want it to be… it is our playground, we should shape it into whatever we wish for. It acts like a tough cookie to bite on, but once you are true to your needs and yourself… it bends to your will like a freshly boiled noodle. Don’t be afraid to show what you want, go out there, stay true and look how it bends to your knees, giving you exactly what you wanted… “

” Why ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Why do we feel so excited about sunrises and sunsets? Why do we like them so much? Is it the mixture of vibrant colours? Is it because of the illuminated clouds? Why do we think they are so special? Is it the uniqueness we love so much? So many questions, even more thoughts about it. The time when the sun starts going down really fast, is one of my favourite moments in my journeys. When I notice my surroundings are covered in shade, and little to none of the sun is coming through tall buildings and trees, it means it’s time to find a vantage point real quick. I always try to remember nice, tall and accessible buildings I visit on my path, but it doesn’t help much, when they are located a few kilometres away from your current position, especially in a city you do not know. After, at least six hours of constant walking, I am a tad tired, but when this moment comes, I get extra shot of energy and the hunt for a great observation point begins. I am moving extremely fast, trying to spot the tallest nearby block of flats, with its stairwell windows situated in a direction of the vanishing yolk. First, I have to get past an entryphone, then check if the stairwell’s windows open fully, lastly if everything is good, I can climb on the top floor and start the process of capturing. Unfortunately, most of the time there is something in my way… Missing window handle, closed door, blocked view, bad view, window does not open etc. So I rush from building to building, from stairwell to stairwell, in hope that I can make it before it’s too late. I am not going to lie… I have lost many times… but I have also managed to be on time once or twice. Every sunrise and sunset is unique, just like the birth and the death… Maybe this is why we treat them with so many emotions, because they remind us, of our short lived existence… “

” Fluff ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Fluff… without it, the sky looks like an unfinished painting, boring and unnatural. It may sound funny, but it is unbelievably hard to incorporate those billowy bastards into your photography. They are unpredictable, they appear exactly when you are all tied up with work, and you can’t travel anywhere to capture them. They also don’t last for too long. What you cannot see here, is the totally dark area on the left side of the photograph. Approximately after fifteen minutes… the sky was gone, devoured by black and grey storm clouds. I am trying to forecast when they will appear, and plan my journeys accordingly, but even with a knowledge not shy from the one of a meteorologist, I have found no lack in doing so. They don’t only look brilliant, they also naturally diffuse rays of sunshine, creating a magical haze, making everything look so much nicer. To sum it all up, clouds are cool, but… Like with everything in life, the balance is the most important thing, it’s also the hardest to achieve. Sky will not look amazing, if it’s completely covered in clouds, nor without a single one. So yes, if you see a beautiful blue sky, covered with white billowy bastards I am always looking for, take a moment and cherish it, because somewhere around the globe, I am chasing them without luck. “

” Jungle Warfare ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Concrete versus plants… It is nice to see, that those green creatures, still have something to say in today’s world of industrialisation. Even though, they utilise mainly guerrilla warfare, popping here and there, they are still visible and cannot be ignored. Another thing, that really pleases me is, they have a great number of supporters, who help them a lot. It is kind of ironic, that in the past the plants were giving us shelter and peace, but now… we are the ones who protect them, and unfortunately, it is us… we are protecting them from. This particular photograph, reminds me of a jungle, where all plants try to get as high as possible in order to get more sun. This only shows, that whatever we do, we are still part of one family with nature. Whatever we do, nature had already done it, long time before us. Nature doesn’t need our protection, if it dies, we go down along with it, simple as that. I hope it will never come to this… It doesn’t need us to survive, but we on the other hand, can’t exist without it. We need to learn how to embrace it, instead of exploiting it… Symbiosis or extinction, which one will we choose? “

” Settlers ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” It is funny how people stick together. There is so much space, yet they choose to live next to each other. Of course it is more convenient and practical, but the truth is, almost nobody wants to live alone. We like the presence of the fellow species around us. We don’t have to like them, nor interact with them. The mere idea of knowing, that they are living somewhere nearby, is very comforting for us. We settle, live and create the world around us. Plain grounds, stop being flat and monotonous, we change things, adjust them to our needs. After a while, beautiful towns, cities and villages, emerge from the mutual symbiosis. I just wish, we could learn how to live in a better harmony with nature. After all, we are only tenants… and one day, we might get kicked out of here, if we do not learn how to behave and respect our great landlord… “

” Cloud Ticklers ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Boy oh boy… Does everything look so freaking amazing from above? Is it because we do not experience it from down below? I do not know… but sure as hell it looks great! Same old, boring places, now look like a new and undiscovered realm of magic, awaiting to be explored and conquered. From this point of view, you can make it, what you want it to be… Dragons, elves, castles in clouds, enchanted forests with unseen creatures hiding within or perhaps a futuristic city, where cars are gliding and hovering above the ground… The choice is yours, close your eyes for a second, take a deep breath and create your own reality. Lie yourself for a moment, mix what you see with what you cannot, adding things you would love to see in the blank spaces. How would your city look like? Maybe, once you come back down… it will look like you have imagined it… “

” Swarm ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + Samyang 10mm F2.8 )

” Foaming dark blue and white sky, flowing like a mad river… Right beneath it, a swarm of human civilization pushing the nature out of its own place. I stand there, on the tenth floor and look at the city from above… It looks like a tiny part of a snow globe… who is shaking the toy though? We cover, once green fields of greenery, with synthetic structures of our own… spreading like a bad disease. What is the purpose of human race? Are we really the parasites of this planet? Who programmed us and why? Are we some kind of an experiment that rapidly spun out of control? Or maybe… we are doing exactly what we were supposed to do? Controlled, like mindless puppets… “

” Concrete Jungle ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + Samyang 10mm F2.8 )

” Just look at it… doesn’t it remind a tiny part of a forest? So many lives, in such close distance. The old buildings deteriorate slowly, decompose, while the new ones, spring up like mushrooms after rain. Everyone is doing their little work, everyone has a purpose and special assignments in this crazy, new, synthetic ecosystem. Just like plants, animals and microbes, we are creating our own community of living organisms. We are not different from any of this, just as bacteria has its role and place on this planet, so do we… Can’t you really see the pattern in all this? We are not, who we think we are… We are just another cog in the system and we live solely, to complete the necessary cycle of a greater mechanism… There’s nothing more to our existence… We are not special, we are not unique, and surely… we are not in control. “
