” Mystery Continues ” by tgchan ( Sony A6500 + Sony Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 )

” So, the mystery continues… I am still trying to figure out what’s so special about those blocks of flats to me. I think it comes from my childhood. See, I didn’t use to go out a lot when I was a kid. I was basically living my whole life in my beloved flat most of the time, and I really liked it. I was enjoying outside activities at my grandparents at the weekends, but that was it. Five days a week, I was sitting at my home playing games, watching telly and playing with my toys, all the time (except for when I had to go out to school, obviously; which I wasn’t really fond of…). I totally loved my childhood, by the way. Hah~!! I was just reading it over out loud and I realised that my current adult life resembles the one from my childhood almost identically… wow… It looks I haven’t moved in life at all… Anyway, I was spending my life in tight enclosed spaces most of the time, so this might be one of the reasons. The second one I have figured out is probably connected with my lone style of life. See, I don’t have many friends you know. To tell the truth, I don’t have any at the moment. I had two best friends a long time ago, but they are… out there in the world somewhere now. So I think, I really enjoy being around people, even though I don’t like 98% of them. I am leading a solitary boring life, so it makes me feel nice being in places where life just lives the normal way, you know? I am pretty sure it all adds up to itself. Childhood nostalgia, loneliness, love of being outside, taking something back as a souvenir and probably so much more… All that is the reason why I enjoy doing what I do so much, and it explains a lot why I am being so attracted to those places… I feel like I am at home, even though the real one is far far away sometimes. I feel I belong between those tall buildings (inside and on top of them too!). It’s a truly magical experience for me every time I go out there. I just wish I had someone to share those moments with… Just that one person I could take with me and get lost in time… “

” Good Night Settlers ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-5 II s + SMC Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 AL Limited )

” So, the sun is already comfortably lying in its soft horizon bed… It still has its eyes wide open, but the eyelids are getting heavier and heavier with every minute passing by. It is a matter of short time now, when those bright eyes full of light will get closed for several hours, leaving the town under a dark blanket. People on the other hand are far away from a goodnight sleep. Still busy, still lots of things to finish up before they can snug into their comfy beds. The sky has already started losing its colours, slowly giving up to the inevitable change. The last clouds are soon to be dissolved, leaving nothing but an empty space behind. Wind turbines starting waking up, stretching their arms, warming up, preparing to dance all night. Good night settlers… have a nice and restful night. Time to rest. Close your eyes, let your mind drift away… be free… “

” Inception Of The Tree Of Life ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-5 II s + Samyang 8mm F3.5 Fisheye CS II )

” The Tree of Life… What are you doing here all alone, surrounded by all those concrete walls with glassy eyes? You are far away from your place, you must be so lonely… Look what they have done to you… How can you live like that? Constantly drowned in shadows, waiting whole days just for a glimpse of sunshine… it must be unbearable. Hmm… now that sounds awfully familiar… I think I know what keeps you alive, and I am most certainly sure how you must feel. Worry not my dear fellow, you are not alone in this miserable journey. You are beautiful, you know… You might not be in your ideal place in life, but you are truly special, and those who are lucky enough to be in your presence, really do enjoy your magnificence. Lost, but still unique and so uncanny. Have you ever wondered, why are we placed the way we are in our existence? Is it a pure randomness, or is it something entirely greater than that? If it is the first thing… we are truly fucked, aren’t we my friend? Imagine uprooting now, after so many years of wasted life… it can’t be easy, can it? If it is the second option… well, we have some purpose of being in such a position, and we can’t do much about it, except for understanding it, and waiting for the highest point in our lives. I don’t know… this thinking feels too comforting, could it be just a nasty lie? Where do you even seek such an answer? Can you know for sure, once you learn of it? Dear Tree… what is it going to be? Do we really have a chance? Can we really turn things upside down? Look, the sky is already bending to your will… I think we can… “

” Concrete Shrooms ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Concrete Shrooms growing out of the city’s undergrowth. Piercing the face of Earth, sticking out one by one, waiting to be noticed. From time to time, they puff giant clouds of toxic spores that spread like a bad disease… And when they finally die, they do not simply vanish. They still keep standing there… tall, hollow and creepy. Like an old and dirty web that nobody wants to touch, they last in their places for years… before they collapse. Some say, mushrooms are a result of decay. Perhaps, those ones, are the result of a slowly decaying humanity. “

” Roofs ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Roofs… they often go unappreciated, unnoticed or being seen from the boring ground level. Climbing on a top floor is always a thrill. First, you have to get into a stairwell. Then, you will have to fight with many steps ahead of you. Very often on the way up, your nose is amused by a different smell on each storey. Finally, once you get on the top level, you might be rewarded with a nice view, that not many people have a chance to glance at. Roofs… they are special, aren’t they? I particularly like the tiled ones, they look like a reptilian skin. Funny enough, they fulfil the same function as well. Coincidence? I don’t think so. There is so much we can learn from the nature. Most, if not all of our greatest technological discoveries, are just merely small scale reflections of what the nature had done centuries ago. She is a great teacher, we are just slow to learn. “

” Fluff ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Fluff… without it, the sky looks like an unfinished painting, boring and unnatural. It may sound funny, but it is unbelievably hard to incorporate those billowy bastards into your photography. They are unpredictable, they appear exactly when you are all tied up with work, and you can’t travel anywhere to capture them. They also don’t last for too long. What you cannot see here, is the totally dark area on the left side of the photograph. Approximately after fifteen minutes… the sky was gone, devoured by black and grey storm clouds. I am trying to forecast when they will appear, and plan my journeys accordingly, but even with a knowledge not shy from the one of a meteorologist, I have found no lack in doing so. They don’t only look brilliant, they also naturally diffuse rays of sunshine, creating a magical haze, making everything look so much nicer. To sum it all up, clouds are cool, but… Like with everything in life, the balance is the most important thing, it’s also the hardest to achieve. Sky will not look amazing, if it’s completely covered in clouds, nor without a single one. So yes, if you see a beautiful blue sky, covered with white billowy bastards I am always looking for, take a moment and cherish it, because somewhere around the globe, I am chasing them without luck. “

” Jungle Warfare ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” Concrete versus plants… It is nice to see, that those green creatures, still have something to say in today’s world of industrialisation. Even though, they utilise mainly guerrilla warfare, popping here and there, they are still visible and cannot be ignored. Another thing, that really pleases me is, they have a great number of supporters, who help them a lot. It is kind of ironic, that in the past the plants were giving us shelter and peace, but now… we are the ones who protect them, and unfortunately, it is us… we are protecting them from. This particular photograph, reminds me of a jungle, where all plants try to get as high as possible in order to get more sun. This only shows, that whatever we do, we are still part of one family with nature. Whatever we do, nature had already done it, long time before us. Nature doesn’t need our protection, if it dies, we go down along with it, simple as that. I hope it will never come to this… It doesn’t need us to survive, but we on the other hand, can’t exist without it. We need to learn how to embrace it, instead of exploiting it… Symbiosis or extinction, which one will we choose? “

” Settlers ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + HD Pentax-DA 35mm F2.8 Limited Macro )

” It is funny how people stick together. There is so much space, yet they choose to live next to each other. Of course it is more convenient and practical, but the truth is, almost nobody wants to live alone. We like the presence of the fellow species around us. We don’t have to like them, nor interact with them. The mere idea of knowing, that they are living somewhere nearby, is very comforting for us. We settle, live and create the world around us. Plain grounds, stop being flat and monotonous, we change things, adjust them to our needs. After a while, beautiful towns, cities and villages, emerge from the mutual symbiosis. I just wish, we could learn how to live in a better harmony with nature. After all, we are only tenants… and one day, we might get kicked out of here, if we do not learn how to behave and respect our great landlord… “

” Slope ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + Samyang 10mm F2.8 )

” I think our planet is a little too flat, don’t you agree? I mean, it’s quite boring. Imagine that it is built with such slopes as the one on the photograph… Now that, would be interesting! Damn! Just think about it, how cool would it be to live like that. I am pretty sure, if our planet would be covered with giant triangles like that, and we wouldn’t be able to change its shape, our lives would look so different! So many possibilities, even more changes… just let your imagination run wild for a moment! How would we get to work? Would we have plenty of lakes surrounding us? How would our houses look like inside!? I don’t know about you, but I am pretty sure about one thing… the winters would be a blast! “

” A Very Special Place ” by tgchan ( Pentax K-50 + Samyang 10mm F2.8 )

” Everyone has it, almost everyone miss it… and if we could, we would have returned there without a second of thinking. The very special place from our childhood, the place where everything was meaningful, with purpose… and the happiness was so easily achievable… The people that have surrounded you, your best friends… now, scattered all over the world, living their own lives, far away from yours. Even people you have barely known and those you didn’t like… they are very dear to you, because they are connected to this perfect world of your happiest times. Autumn, winter, spring, summer, there was always something to do… even the most boring moments you can remember, make your face smile and you would love to get back there, just to live through it one more time… This is the view from my grandparent’s window, this is the place where the happiest times of my life have occurred. It doesn’t look like much, I know… but for me, this was the best place to be… It hurts me a lot to be there now, knowing that those times and people will never return… remembering every moment, connected with every spot… I walk there like a ghost, lost in time and space… “
